HOW TO

style your session

Choosing the right outfit is the difference between a GOOD shoot and a GREAT one! Whether your session is indoors or outdoors, the same styling rules apply. I've put together my top tips to guide you through your styling choices, but remember you can message me at any time to ask my opinion - I love chatting clothes! The number one rule is to be true to yourself - don’t wear anything that you’re not comfortable in. There’s nothing more beautiful than feeling confident in your own skin, so make sure that you choose an outfit that you feel comfortable in and that fits well. Bring spare clothes for little ones incase there are any accidents!

Colour palette

Choose two or three colours to create a palette for your photos, and then incorporate the colours throughout your outfits in varying patterns, solids, textures and layers. Avoid black as your main colour. Soft, muted and neutral colours look great for my style of photography. I would always recommend going barefoot for indoor shoots.

Texture

I LOVE texture! Mixing up fabrics is a smart strategy to add some dimension to your images. Adding things like knits, silks, lace etc can add a beautiful warmth to images.

prepare in advance

I would recommend picking out your outfits and having them ready the night before. That way, you will be relaxed before your shoot. Always bring spares for little ones!

consider your nails

During shoots, I will often take close up images of you holding your children and often your hands will be included. You won’t want to look back at chipped polish in years to come! Natural nails look lovely, but if you are painting them, I would recommend avoiding bright/neon colours for this occasion as they detract from you.

WHAT TO

avoid wearing

Checked shirts - they can cause wiggly lines to appear on your photos!

Bright block colours - they can cause colour reflections onto your skin.

Bold stripes - they can be distracting.

Clothing with text, characters and big logos - They detract from you and date quickly

outdoor shoots

Outdoor family shoots are always a fantastic option for capturing fun, natural moments. These work especially well for toddlers and older children and allow for fun filled sessions. If you have a location in mind, please let me know, or I have some locations I have used before.

the studio

I’m so excited to offer my studio space to families looking for a warm, cosy home-from-home atmosphere where they can relax and create beautiful memories.

Located in Menston, my studio is easily accessible, and you will find all the details, including the address, on your booking platform. To reach the studio, simply follow the road to the very end, where you’ll find a designated parking space marked "Number 2" for your convenience.

I look forward to welcoming you and your family to my space and helping you preserve these precious moments in the most comfortable and inviting environment.

in the home family shoot

It can be really helpful if you could send a few photos of any rooms you'd like to use prior to the shoot. This gives me a chance to assess the space and determine what might work best for the photos. However, please don’t worry if this isn’t possible or you prefer not to. When I arrive, we can take a look around together and find the best spots for your photographs. I typically take photos in areas like the living room, kitchen, master bedroom, or little ones bedroom/nursery. Areas with light natural lighting is best. I often take images in front of a window or patio/bifold doors, as natural light works beautifully for these shots. Rest assured, we’ll make sure everything is perfect for capturing beautiful memories!

extra tips

Can i Bring my Dog?

Of course they can be included! They are part of the family, too.

WHat if it Rains

If you have chosen an outdoor location for your family shoot, don't worry if it rains. Often we can change the timing of the shoot on the day to find a dry spell. If the weather isn't workable, we can rearrange your shoot to another date.

and finally....

There are very few times in life when we are completely switched off from the outside world and totally present with our children - make this time one of those. Take this time to breathe them in, enjoy them, be present, and remember why you’re doing this. You’re preserving family memories to look back on in years to come.
